Jacqueline A. "Jacki" (Volkmer) Oelke

Jacqueline (Jacki) Oelke, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, with her beloved husband, Orville, by her side. The day marked their 65th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.

Born on August 10, 1940, Jacki's life was profoundly guided by her faith, which helped her create a warm and nurturing home for Orville and their two children. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Jacki was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Angela Volkmer, her son Leon, and her stepfather Ronald Volkmer.

She is survived by her husband Orville, her daughter Cindy (Jerry O’Brien), her son Jeff (Stacy), and her cherished grandchildren Addison, Heather (Alec Cooper), and Zack Olson. She is also survived by her sister Sharon (Jerry Hoffman), stepbrothers Fr. Mike, Ron, Jon, and Chris, and stepsisters Patricia, Marylea, and Diane, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jacki had a passion for travel and discovery, often spurred by her children's global adventures. She especially loved visiting her grandparents' homeland, Germany, and cherished the experience of seeing Miss Saigon on the West End of London. Her favorite destination was the Chicagoland area, where she could visit both of her children simultaneously. These were just a few of her many adventures. Additionally, she enjoyed attending National and state conventions with the UCT, an organization she was affiliated with for many years. A voracious reader, Jacki had a particular fondness for Harlequin romances. Many boxes of these cherished books were donated when she moved from her home to a villa at the Ambassador. Besides reading, she relished playing bridge with her bridge club and engaging in various word puzzles. Despite the challenges posed by Alzheimer's, she maintained a sharp wit and an enduring love for these activities.

Jacki's faith inspired her to be actively involved in numerous organizations dedicated to helping others. She was a passionate volunteer, especially when it came to cooking. From her mother, she learned that good food could solve many problems, and she carried this wisdom throughout her life.

Jacki Oelke will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her remarkable
journey.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. A rosary will follow at 7 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited to the church hall immediately following the funeral for a light lunch and reminiscing on Jacki’s wonderful life. Burial will follow the luncheon at St Mary’s Cemetery for family.

The family suggests memorials to Lourdes Central or the Alzheimer’s Association to honor Jacki’s memory.
