J.D. “Doc” Owen, age 82 of Hamburg, IA passed on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.
J.D. Owen was born on October 9, 1939 in Hamburg, IA the son of Forest M. and Grace F. (Stephens) Owen. He lived his whole life in Hamburg. He graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1958.
On December 16, 1960, J.D. was united in marriage to Cynthia Mae Banes and to this union two children were born: Jannifer and Kenneth. Cynthia preceded him in death on October 22, 2012.
He worked for John Deere in Hamburg for over 50 years as a Diesel Mechanic. He also did some farming over the years. After retirement, J.D. ran a mower repair business. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hamburg and the Saddle Club. Some of his favorite hobbies were bowling, mushroom hunting and leatherworking.
J.D. is survived by his children: Jannifer Davis and husband John of Republic, MO and Kenneth Owen of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Joseph Davis of Springfield, MO, Dr. Jill Bruer (Kyle) of Albuquerque, NM, Jacob Davis of Richland, WA, Alicia Ketcham (Mark) of Gretna, NE, Addison Morong of Omaha, NE and Chloe Owen of Omaha, NE; two great-grandchildren: Lily and Weston Ketcham siblings: Richard “Dick” Owen of Hamburg, IA, Jane Lang of Riverton, IA and Larry Owen (Joy) of Nebr. City, NE; other family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Harley, Forest “Boots” and Donald Owen; infant siblings: Robert and Sharon Owen; sisters-in-law: Marjorie Owen and Esther Owen and brother-in-law Merrill Lang.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Zion (Utterback) Cemetery by Hamburg, IA.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
Memorials may be given to the Essex Fire Department, the American Diabetes Assoc. or St. Jude’s Hospital.
