Howard A. Vann, age 81 of LIncoln, NE (formerly Nebraska City) passed away on Monday; August 2, 2021 at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln.

Howard was born on December 29, 1939 in Eure, NC; the son of Howard Alexander and Della Mae (Lilly) Vann.  He attended school and graduated from Gatesville High School, Gatesville, NC with the Class of 1958.  He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was active in ROTC.  He earned his degree from there in 1962.

Shortly after graduating from college, he entered the US Air Force on July 6, 1962 where he served as a Computer Specialist during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged on January 16, 1968 as a Captain.

Howard was united in marriage to Judith A. Carlisle on April 11, 1965 in Omaha, NE and to this union three children were born:  Sarah, Jenny and Scott.

Following his military career, he worked for Civil Service at SAC (Strategic Air Command) and STRATCOM (United States Strategic Command) in Bellevue, NE as a Computer Specialist.  He retired in 1996.  

He is survived by his wife Judith “Judy” Vann of Lincoln, NE; children:  Sarah Kripal (Thomas) of Lincoln, NE, Jenny Cuykendall (James) of Plattsmouth, NE and Scott Vann of Colorado Springs, CO; four grand-children:  Jeremy Vann (Tracy) of Omaha, NE, Sophia Kripal of Colorado Springs, CO, Kailey Kripal of Lincoln, NE and Jon Cuykendall of Plattsmouth, NE; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Vann; a brother Thomas Vann (Thelma) of Eure, NC and brothers and sisters in law:  Janice Allgood (Darrell) of Nebr. City, Jim Carlisle (Nancy) of Lincoln, NE, Jennifer Durr (Keith) of Nixa, MO and Joyce Bennett (Ben) of Omaha, NE; other family and many friends.    He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held Friday (Aug. 6) at 11:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  Inurnment will follow in Wyuka Cemetery, Nebr. City with joint military honors by the US Air Force Funeral Honors Detail and Talmage American Legion Post.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
