Hilda Wellensiek, 100
October 2, 1923 – April 18, 2024


Hilda achieved 100 years of age while living at Good Samaritan Society in Syracuse, NE. She entered God’s heavenly kingdom on April 18,2024.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Syracuse. Pastor Andy DeGolyer will officiate. Interment will
be at Park Hill cemetery in Syracuse.   Visitation will be Friday evening, April 26, 2024, from 5 – 8 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to St John’s United Church of Christ or Syracuse Food Pantry.

Hilda was born October 2, 1923, in Cook NE to Herman and Anna (Grundman) Petersen. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Cook NE.   Hilda was united in marriage to Virgil Wellensiek on March 9, 1943. To this union 3 children were born. They lived in rural Syracuse before moving to town in 1965.
Hilda was actively involved in St. Johns United Church of Christ Choir and Women’s Circle, the Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, Germanfest, VFW, Silver Sneakers and Bowling. She was known as the “flower Lady” and a Band Mom.   She worked at the Sewing Factory and the Fabric Store in Syracuse. She was deeply passionate about helping her siblings and their families. Hilda was a devoted wife and caregiver, her greatest love and joy above everything else was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughter-in-law’s; Charles and Marilyn, Howard and Patricia, Gordon and Dallas. Grandchildren and their spouses Wesley and Kristie, Michael and Nicole, Jeffrey, Julie, Brian and Sara,Tyler and Chad, step grandsons and spouses; Dino and Monique Galasso, Tony and Alexandria Galasso and their children, great-grandchildren; Emma, Camille, Henry, Sophie, Ellie, Andrea, Vincent, Logan, Alexa, Jackson, Andrew, Eli, and Owen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, parents, brothers and sisters. She was the last of her generation.
