Gloria Jean (Bashaw) Mattice

Gloria J. Mattice, age 83, of Hamburg, passed away on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Gloria Jean (Bashaw) Mattice, was born on October 25, 1941, in Clarinda, IA, the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Wilson) Bashaw. She grew up and attended school in Riverton, later obtaining her GED at the age of 42. She was united in marriage to Chester Mattice, Jr. on March 4, 1963 in Omaha, NE.

She worked for many years at Grape Community Hospital, starting as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 1976. She later obtained her Registered Nursing Degree and later became the Director of Nursing at Grape Community Hospital where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hamburg and enjoyed competitive horse riding, boating, and traveling. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family; especially her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Chester Mattice of Hamburg; children: Denise Ray (Stanley) of Gallatin, MO, Terri Moore (Greg) of Hamburg, IA, and Darla Mattice of Plattsmouth, NE; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Eileen Thompson of Hamburg; other family and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janet Sue Bashaw, brother Paul Allen Bashaw, son-in law Michael Blankenship, and brother-in-law Hank Thompson.

Services are to be held at a later date.

Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
