Glenn R. Bennett, age 78 of Nebr. City passed away early Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Syracuse, NE.
Glenn Roger Bennett was born on April 15, 1943 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City; the son of Frank Albert and Dorothy Ida (Volkmer) Bennett. He attended school at District 52 and St. Joseph School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Brock High School with the class of 1960.
He then attended Oklahoma State Tech where he studied Refrigeration. After his schooling he returned to Nebraska and began his career. In 1982, Glenn started Bennett Refrigeration in Omaha, NE that he owned and operated for nearly 30 years, before retiring in 2011. Glenn served in the Nebraska Army National Guard 134th Infantry out of Omaha. He served in National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He was united in marriage to Judith (Vaughan) White on May 27, 1995 in Nebraska City and they shared 26 years together.
Glenn was an active member of the community where he was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles 968, the Arbor Shrine Club, the Tangier Shrine and the Western Star Lodge #2. He volunteered at the Shrine Circus for many years.
Glenn is survived by his wife Judy Bennett of Nebr. City; children: Traci Gunter (Michael) of Gretna, NE, Christine Bennett of Omaha, NE and Jennifer Sheldon (Mark) of Ashland, NE; four grandchildren: Josh Sheldon (Heather), Brendan and Kaitlyn Gunter and Kyle Sheldon; step-children: Keith (Kathy) White of Nebr. City, Charlie White of Nebr. City and Lauri White of Millersport, OH; step son-in-law Steve Walters of Nebr. City; step-grandchildren: Kory White (Julia), Adam Walters, Brian White (Stephanie), Derek Walters (Summer), Amber Spidell (Tom), Ceceilia Spidell, Kendra Wiechmann and Colleen Wiechmann; 21 step great-grandchildren; siblings: LeAnn Jeanneret (Jerry) of Omaha, NE, Lois Wilson of Fargo, ND and Alan Bennett (Kathy) of Papillion, NE; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Paul Bennett and step-daughter Brenda Walters.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City. A Rosary will be held prior to the funeral at 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery near Paul, NE at 4:00 p.m. with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday (9/12) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City followed by a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Lourdes Endowment Fund or Shriners Hospitals.
