Gerald Hoffman Obituary

Gerald M. Hoffman, age 89 of Nebraska City passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Gerald was born on May 17, 1931 in Omaha, NE; the son of Cornelius E. and Alma M. (Voss) Hoffman.  He attended school and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1950.  On March 25, 1952, he entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.  He was honorably discharged on February 4, 1954.

On July 15, 1956, Gerald was united in marriage to Joann Joyce Turner in Nebraska City and to this union three children were born:  David, Colleen and Robert.  He worked at American Meter Company in Nebraska City for 42 years retiring in 1996 and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Joann Hoffman of Nebr. City; children:  Colleen Rippe and husband Leroy of Geneva, NE and Bob Hoffman and wife Brenda of Nebr. City; six grandchildren:  Michael Hoffman, Christine Harris (Eric), Wendy Rippe (Orlando), Wes Rippe (Alex), Kelsey Hoffman and Haley Hoffman (Andrew); 11 great-grandchildren:  Brayden, Emma, Kendie, Briley, Elsa, Katerina, Bentley, Atlas, Mason, Winston and Barrett; one sister Elaine Pummel of Lincoln, NE; brother and sisters-in-law:  Lee and Joyce Turner of Nebr. City and Evelyn Turner of Florida; other family and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, a son David L. Hoffman in 2014, a granddaughter Theresa Mary Hoffman in 1985; siblings:  Warren, Marcia and Deloris, brother in law Alvin Turner (Fumiko) and his father and mother in law Chester and Helen Turner.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebr. City.  Inurnment will be in the Wyuka Cemetery at a later date with military services conducted by the Talmage American Legion Post and the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Veterans Memorial Building Renovation.
