George Winkler Obituary

Oren George Winkler was born August 26, 1942 To Oren Carl Winkler and Dorothy Faye (Risdon) Winkler on the Winkler family farm four miles east of Hamburg, IA.  He passed away peacefully on January 27, 2020 at his home in Henderson, NV surrounded by his family.

George graduated 8th grade from rural Highland Country School and high school from Hamburg Community Schools with the class of 1960.  Following graduation he was employed at the Iowa State Bank before beginning employment with Ford Motors.

On June 19, 1966 George married Janeth Lynn Kelley.  The couple lived in Nebraska City, NE where he worked for ClemmyHolmes Ford and later moved to Kansas City where he worked for Snyder Ford.  In 1970 he and his family returned to Hamburg, where he began farming with his father on the Winkler Family Farm where he was born and raised.
George loved farming and assumed the family farm operation from his father in 1976.  He actively farmed until his health forced his retirement in 2006.  George and Janeth continued to reside in the family home where he managed the farmingoperation until they moved to Henderson, NV in 2013.

George loved baseball, both playing the game and watching it.  He was an avid St Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved attending local baseball games when his sons were playing on T-Ball through high school teams.  He was also fortunate to attend their high school football and basketball games over the years. George also enjoyed pastimes of antique car shows and horse racing. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg.

George was preceded in death by his parents: two sisters; Clarice Ann Winkler Head and infant Beverly Faye Winker: and brother, Duane Ralph Winkler. 

George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janeth, of Henderson, NV: sons, Todd, of Sacramento, CA; Troy and wife Jody of Flower Mound, TX; and Kerry of Henderson, NV:brother, Charles Winkler and wife Sue of Hamburg, IA: Grandchildren, Eva, Ariel, and Alex Winkler of Napa, CA; :nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday (Feb. 3) at 2:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery across the road from his former family farm ending life’s journey just a quarter mile from where it began.     

The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday (Feb 2) at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. 

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department or Hamburg Rescue Unit.
