George W. Sammons, Jr., age 78 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; Aug. 20, 2021 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.
He was born on June 13, 1943 in Nebraska City, NE; the oldest of six children of George Lee and Gelena May (Cordell) Sammons. He attended school in Nebraska City.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1961 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964.
George worked for over 30 years in Quality Control at Nutrien Phosphate (formerly Texas Gulf) at Weeping Water, NE. He retired from the company at the age of 61. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed deer hunting. He could often be found at the Missouri River, watching the river flow and enjoying nature.
He is survived by his children: Kris Sammons (Amber) of Nebr. City, Malissa Anderson (Doug) of Omaha, NE and Jason Sammons (Lori Gress) of Syracuse, NE; eight grandchildren: Theron Hill, Maiven Sammons, Anelae Sammons, Jared Anderson, Erik Anderson, Michael Reed, Rachel Reed and Tyler Reed; one great-grandchild; significant other Donna Johnson of Nebr. City; siblings: Ronnie Sammons (Gloria) of Washington, PA, Linda Sammons of Nebr. City, Kathleen Sammons of Nebr. City, Darlene Kallenberger (Dennis) of Richmond, MO and John Sammons (Charlene) of Grand Island, NE; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Angela Reed on Jan. 3, 2015.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday (8/25) at 2:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Ron Sammons officiating. Military honors will be conducted immediately following the services by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (8/24) at Gude Mortuary.
