George T. Hengen, age 86 of Lincoln, NE (formerly Nebr. City and Omaha) passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his home.
George Thomas Hengen was born on December 10, 1938 in Omaha, NE; the son of Leo Wunnibald and Marcella Agnes (O’Connell) Hengen. He grew up and attended school in Omaha. He married Patricia Sughrue on October 11, 1969 in York, NE and the couple raised their four children in Louisville, NE. Patricia passed away on April 7, 1989 and George later married Mary Kay (Fox) Myers on July 15, 1995 in Nebraska City and welcomed her two children.
He began his career at the United States Postal Services as a Letter Carrier in 1963 and retired after 30 years of service. George moved from Louisville to Nebraska City in 1995 and from Nebraska City to Lincoln in 2022.
George was a man of deep faith. A lifelong Catholic, he loved the Lord with his whole heart, and lived his life in service to others as well as praying for the needs of others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and kept active in his retirement by playing pool, doing his puzzle books, and playing card games.
Survivors include his wife Mary Kay Hengen; children: Kelly Anderson (Damien), David Hengen (Allison), Linda Vanek (Ryan), Karen Parson (Trevor), Mary Ann Spangler (Robert) and Lee Myers; grandchildren: Audrey, Aidan and Aaron Anderson; Luke and Clover Hengen; Tyler, Alyssa and Brady Vanek; Hannah, Daniel and Andrew Parson; Josie Kramer; Jordan Keefe (Travis); Michael and Marysa Myers; two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife Patricia; he was preceded in death by a grandson Jakeb Myers, a brother Frank Hengen and a sister Marjorie Cook as well as his parents.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday; August 6, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE. Recitation of the Rosary will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the church led by Fr. Lyle Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday; August 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE with Fr. Tom Schultes celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery (Paul, NE) southwest of Nebraska City.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Catholic Church in Lincoln, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City or St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
