Geneva M. Wurtele, age 97 of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday; July 30, 2022 at her home.
She was born on July 8, 1925 at Lake Odessa, MI; the daughter of Donald and Hazel (Ansbaugh) Allerding. When Geneva was only two years old, her mom passed away and she was raised by her grandparents Milo and Ellie Ansbaugh. She attended school and graduated from the Woodland High School, Woodland, MI with the Class of 1943.
She was united in marriage to Earl Roy Wurtele on July 3, 1944 in Hastings, MI and to this union two children were born: Steven and Candice.
Earl and Geneva opened the Auto Grill in Nebraska City in 1956. They dedicated their lives to the success of their restaurant until it closed in 1983 due to highway construction. Together, they shared many fond memories as they watched their business grow over the years. Geneva then worked at American Meter from 1984 until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the Bethel Church in Nebr. City.
She is survived by her children: Steven L. Wurtele (Sharon) and Candice A. Wurtele and devoted friend Dan Zimmerman all of Nebr. City; a grandson Brodie L. Wurtele, step-grandson Patrick Greenlee (Laurie), four great-grandchildren: Xalie, Grey, Lucy and Sunset; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl on April 3, 2006.
A graveside service will be held Thursday (8/4) at 10:00 a.m. at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
Visitation is open from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. The casket will remain closed.
