Garnet M. (Brown) Kreifels

Garnet M. Kreifels, age 86 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Cedar Creek of High Plains Senior Living in Lincoln, NE.

Garnet Marie (Brown) Kreifels was born on October 15, 1937 in Falls City, NE; the daughter of Robert G. and Opal I. (McConaha) Brown.  The family later moved to Nebraska City where she attended school and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1955.  After high school, she attended Peru State College. 

On August 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to Floyd J. “Buck” Kreifels at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and to this union five children were born:  Kim, Debra, Tammy, Brad and Kelly.

In addition to raising her family, Garnet worked with her husband Buck at the family owned business-City Wholesale Meat Company – in Nebraska City in various capacities.  She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and sang in St. Benedict’s Choir.

She is survived by her children:  Kim M. Meredith of Nebraska City, NE, Debra J. Grant (Mark) of Lincoln, NE, Tammy E. Clark (Bret) of Lincoln, NE, Brad R. Kreifels (Michelle) of Nebraska City, NE and Kelly E. Kreifels of Shenandoah, IA; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; siblings:  Delores Scharp of Farragut, IA, Betty Borer (Steve) and Robert Brown (Mary) all of Nebr. City, NE; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Buck” Kreifels on August 5, 2022, her parents and a great-granddaughter Lily Hower.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE with Fr. Doug Daro celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday (5/17) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
