Fredrick Lee Miles

Fredrick L. “Fred” Miles, age 71 of Riverton, IA passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at his home. 

Fred was born November 14, 1953, in Omaha, NE to Lee Alfred Miles I and Elizabeth Jane (Hayes) Miles.  He grew up in southwest Iowa with three brothers.  In the early 80s, Fred moved to Edwards, CO where he worked at Rocky Mountain Casting.  Fred and Howard worked the sled rides in Vail, CO.  In 1989, he returned to southwest Iowa and purchased his home in Riverton.  He started doing taxidermy in Colorado and continued to do it in Riverton, where he opened his shop of Taxidermy & Bait. He also sang for the band “One Step and Beyond.”

Fred loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, all while enjoying a cold beer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers:  Charles Frasier, Blaine “Butch” Riaski, James Miles and Davis Miles; sisters:  Phyllis Strange and Kay (Riaski) Hough.

Fred is survived by two brothers: Howard Miles Sr. of Shenandoah, IA and Robert Riaski of Hollywood, FL; children: Freddy Miles Jr. of Red Oak, IA and Jay Dean Miles of Shambaugh, IA, Shiloh and Nate Ronick; five grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Haven, Rye, Haileigh, and Brandon; many nieces and nephews; other family and friends.  He will be missed by all.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at United Faith Church in Sidney, IA.  The family will greet friends prior to the service at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Memorials may be given to the family.
