Freda Golden Dickey, age 98 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
Freda was born January 26, 1926 in Hospers, IA to Horton and Ann (VanderLee) Jacobsma. She graduated from Hospers High School in May of 1943 and then moved to Omaha where she met her future husband, Bill Golden, at the Orpheum Theater. They married February 17, 1945 in San Francisco, CA and to this union were born: Faye, Nancy, Robert, Jean and John. While living in California, on October 7, 1945, both Bill and Freda accepted the Lord as their personal Savior and continued to live a Christian life until their death’s.
Upon Bill’s discharge from the Navy, they moved to Iowa, and then to Nebraska City in 1946, where Bill was employed at the U.S. Post Office. Freda was a homemaker, a bookkeeper, as well as being very active at First Baptist Church. Bill and Freda became members of First Baptist Church on April 6, 1947 and Freda was the oldest living member at the time of her death. Freda was the organist and pianist for many years, a leader for Bible studies, worked in the Women’s group making items for missionaries, and a Sunday School teacher.
Freda’s husband Bill passed away in 1997 and she later married Robert Dickey in 1999. This extended her family to include his three daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories and rejoice that she is in heaven with her Lord, are children Faye (Ron) Booth of Nebr. City, NE, Nancy Wurtele of Omaha, NE, Jean (Marion) Searcy of Lincoln, NE and John (Elaine) Golden of Nebr. City, NE; daughter-in-law Karen Golden of Gretna, NE; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mildred Hastings and Bub (John) Pratt; sister-in-law Pat Jacobsma; step-children, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Those preceding Freda are her husbands, William (Bill) R. Golden and Robert (Bob) Dickey; son Robert (Bob) Golden; grandsons: Stephen Golden and David Golden; sons-in-law: Eugene Wurtele and Richard (Rick) Hollmann; brothers and sisters in law: Searle (Jo) Jacobsma, Arvin Jacobsma and John (Char) Jacobsma.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Nebr. City with Rev. Keith Hunt officiating. Lunch will follow the service in the Fellowship Center with burial at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Creek Cemetery south of Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (8/6) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
