Joseph F. “Frank” Bataillon, age 95 of Omaha, NE (formerly Nebr. City, NE) passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Crowne Pointe Senior Living in Omaha, NE.
Frank Bataillon was born June 2, 1926 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Joseph Jerome and Marie M. (Finck) Bataillon. He grew up in Nebraska City and attended school at St. Bernard’s Academy (Lourdes Central Catholic), graduating in 1944.
He entered the U.S. Navy July 11, 1944 and proudly served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 3, 1946. He married Norma Jean Lock on October 20, 1948 and to this union seven children were born: Joseph, Peter, James, Mark, Paul, Marie and Michael.
Frank began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Nebraska City in 1954. He worked for the postal service until his retirement in 1978. During that time, he was the Postmaster at Union, NE and was the Safety Manager for Lincoln Region Postal Service.
He was very active in the community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Nebraska City American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #968 and charter and founding member of Nebraska City Rescue Squad, which was the first volunteer rescue squad in the State of Nebraska.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Joseph and Pamela of Omaha, NE; Peter and Kaye of Omaha, NE; James and Deborah of Sugarland, TX; Mark and Barbara of Peachtree Corners, GA; Paul and Ann of Peachtree Corners, GA; Marie Olson and John of Willis, TX; and Michael and Beth of Llano, TX; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law: Charles Lock and Pat of Webster Groves, MO; other family and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Jean on October 5, 2015, his parents; two infant sisters and sister Frances “Frannie” Robertson.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday (May 17) at 10:30am at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church; 11802 Pacific St. Omaha, NE, preceded by a Wake at 9:30.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebraska City with Military Honors conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion Post.
