Fern Lucille (Green) Ottmann

Fern Lucille (Green) Ottmann was born on December 28, 1924 in Madison Township, Fremont County, Iowa; the seventh child born to John Chester and Avis Elgiva (Knapp) Green.  Fern attended Cox Chapel Country School in rural Atchison County, Missouri, and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1942.

On March 19, 1950, Fern was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Ottmann in Hamburg, Iowa.  They made their home in Hamburg all their married life.  To this union four daughters were born:  Donna Jean, Betty Jane, Linda Gail and Lois Ann.  Fern was a lifelong resident of the Hamburg community and a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church in Hamburg.  She was a homemaker, a very talented seamstress, and for many years had a daycare from her home, watching after many children from around the Hamburg area.

Donald passed away on April 9, 2003.  Fern continued to live at home until failing health caused her to enter the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa in December of 2018.  Fern passed away on December 14, 2020 at the age of 95 years.

Fern is survived by her daughters:  Donna Whelan and husband Tim of Watson, MO; Betty Travis of Hamburg, IA; Linda Striker and husband Paul of Treynor, IA and Lois Miller of Hamburg, IA; grandchildren:  Amy (Travis) Barker of Hamburg, IA, Kari (Miller) Andrews and husband Aaron of Nokomis, FL, Dustin Harris of Council Bluffs, IA, Amanda Harris of Des Moines, IA, Clinton Miller and wife Michelle of Ames, IA, Angie (Miller) Hunter and husband James of Omaha, NE, Matthew Whelan of Watson, MO and Lori (Whelan) Kean and husband Nick of Omaha, NE; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild to be born in March 2021; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents and husband Donald, Fern was preceded in death by brothers:  Robert Green, Roy Green, Clyde Green, Ralph Green and Orville Green and sisters:  Leona Green, June McNew and Eva Carris.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg with Pastor James Burnette officiating.  Interment will follow the service.

Open Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (12/17) and from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday (12/18) at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  The casket will remain closed.

Memorials may be given to the Assembly of God Church in Hamburg.
