Dorris J. (Sumner) Meek

Dorris J. Meek, age 87 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Prestige Care Center in Nebr. City.

Dorris June Meek was born on June 5, 1936 in Sidney, IA; the daughter of Albert Bird and Mabel (Lockett) Sumner.  She grew up and attended school in Sidney.  She was united in marriage to Ernie D. Meek and to this union a son and daughter were born:  Denny and Denise.  Ernie preceded her in death in 1967.

In addition to raising her children, Dorris worked as a waitress at various restaurants over the years.

She is survived by her son Denny Meek and wife Ginger of Nebr. City, NE; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law:  Jerry and Karen Lukehart of Bellevue, NE, Sharon and Francis Campbell of Omaha, NE and Dorothy and Carroll Meek of Red Oak, IA; other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Dorris was preceded in death by her daughter Denise Cunningham in 2005; her parents and siblings.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sidney Cemetery in Sidney, IA with Pastor Terry Weible officiating. 

The family will gather at the mortuary at 10:00 a.m. Friday prior to the services.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the donor’s favorite charity.
