Dorothy Schofield Obituary

Dorothy L. Schofield, age 99 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA. 

Dorothy Lucille Metz was born on July 6, 1925 in Cheney, KS; the daughter of Charles T. and Rachel (Guthrie) Metz.  She attended school in Cheney, KS through the 9th grade and attended school in Garden City, KS where she graduated in 1943. 

She married William Walter Schofield in 1945 and to this union four children were born:  William Alfred, Charles Michael, Roger Alan, and Scharon Lynn.  In addition to raising her family, Dorothy worked for the Hamburg Schools as a cook for the hot lunch program for 20 years.  She loved to cook and took great pride in making homemade lunches for the students.  Dorothy enjoyed bowling, making pies and hosting holiday meals for her family.  She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy is survived by her children:  William A. Schofield (Nancy) of Shelton, NE, Charles M. Schofield (Cheryl) of Columbia, MO, Roger A. Schofield of Grand Island, NE and Scharon Lynn Dahl of Jackson, MI; ten grandchildren:  John P. Schofield (Amy), Sean Schofield, Matthew Schofield, Annie Schofield, Theresa Curl (Mark), Katelyn Luenesmann (Patrick), Mary Beth Wochner (Joel), Rebecca Lynn Schofield, Tom Boudewyns (Jan) and David Dahl (Veronica), 13 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren; cousin Billie Marie Peavey of Pea Ridge, AR; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stillborn infant son John; brother Charles Eugene Metz; half siblings:  Minnie Carlson, Jim Guthrie, Richard Guthrie, and Charles Wilbur Guthrie (aka Wilbur Fred Jones), and husband William “Walt” Schofield.

A Family Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  A Family Graveside Service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheney, KS at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Her brother Charles Eugene Metz will be laid to rest at the same time on the Metz family plot with military honors.
