Dorothy Lee Jones

Dorothy L. Jones, age 87 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Auburn, NE.

Dorothy Lee (Tuton) Jones was born on November 12, 1936 in Burton, NE; the daughter of Robert LeRoy and Mary Ann (Whited) Tuton.  In the mid 1940’s, she moved with her family to Nebraska City where she grew up and attended school at the former Greggsport School. 

She was united in marriage to AJ Jones on January 3, 1952 in Rock Port, MO and to this union five children were born:  Gaille, Robert Sr., Arley Jay, Jeanene and Dana.  They also raised two grandchildren as their own:  Robert Jr. and Arley Eugene.  AJ preceded her in death on July 15, 1995.

Dorothy was a housewife and homemaker until the early 1990s, when she started working for Head Start as a dietitian.  Later she worked for WOTA until her retirement.  She also sold Avon products.  Through the years she enjoyed cooking, playing cards, playing music and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by two daughters:  Gaille Brown of Union, NE and Dana Brink of Omaha, NE; two bonus sons:  Robert Jones Jr. and wife Sara of Hopkins, MO and Arley Eugene Jones and wife Buffie of Beaver Lake, NE; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 17 great great-grandchildren; other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sons Robert Jones, Sr. on Aug. 3, 2012 and Arley J. Jones on June 30, 2020 and a daughter Jeanene Pummel on March 14, 2020; her grandson Michael Anthony Jones on June 21, 1978 as well as siblings:  LuAnna Vetter, Lucia Fulfer, LeRoy Tuton, Robert Tuton and Clifford Tuton.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE.  A Private Family Graveside will be held on Nov. 12, 2024 at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
