Donnie Ray Walters

Donnie R. Walters, age 71 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at his home.

Donnie Ray Walters was born on June 5, 1951 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Thomas Lawson and Florence Ellen (Sheard) Walters.  He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1971. 

He was united in marriage to Sheila R. Wiles on August 2, 1974 at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City and to this union three children were born:  Shawn, Justin, and Aaron.

Donnie worked for Nebraska City Coca Cola for 12 years, and enjoyed collecting Coca Cola memorabilia. He then went to work for Nebraska Public Power District at the Cooper Nuclear Plant as a material controller. He worked there for some 28 years until his retirement.  He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eagles. Along with collecting Coca Cola, he enjoyed searching the golf courses for golf balls and riding around town to see what was going on in Nebraska City.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sheila Walters of Nebr. City; sons:  Shawn (Meghan) Walters of Lincoln, NE, Justin Walters of Syracuse, NE and Aaron Walters of Nebr. City; siblings:  Bill (Kathryn) Walters, Patty (Wayne) Ried, Barbara (Jerry) Johnson all of Nebr. City; grandchildren:  Lucas, Sadie and Charles; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents; siblings:  Charles, Robert, Ora Mae, Gerald, Leland, Jane Maybee, Stephen and Susie Reed and niece Betina Swartz.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (9/6) at the mortuary.

The Walters family would like to invite all who knew and loved Donnie to join them for a time of lunch and fellowship at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City following the graveside service.

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church.
