Donnavon “Don” Bassinger, age 88 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
Don was born on October 31, 1931 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Dwight and Julia Marie (Kleineweber) Bassinger. He attended country school and then joined the United States Army on May 27, 1952. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 6, 1954.
On April 12, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Marijo Ann McIntyre in Syracuse, NE. She preceded him in death on January 18, 1991.
Don worked at Allied Chemical as a truck driver for 35 years before retiring. Prior to Allied Chemical he worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He was a former member of the Nebraska City Eagles.
Those left to cherish his memory include two children: Gary Bassinger of Nebr. City, NE and Carolyn Teten and husband Jim of Nebr. City, NE; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; special friend Esther “Babe” McCown of Nebr. City, NE; siblings: Darlene “Doris” Bassinger of Nebr. City, Jerome Bassinger of Oakland, CA and Leonard Bassinger of Nebr. City; numerous nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Larry and Steven and brothers: Minor Bassinger and Dewey Bassinger.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Nebraska City.
Burial of cremains will be held at a later date at Camp Creek Cemetery south of Nebr. City.
