Dean Reese, age 76 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at High Plains Special Care Center in Lincoln, NE.

Dean was born on May 13, 1947 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Edwin Henry and Irene Theresa (Schreiter) Reese.  Dean attended country school and later attended Lourdes Central Catholic where he graduated with the Class of 1965.  He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1966-1972.

He was united in marriage to Diane Louise Hespen on July 15, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City and to this union two children were born:  David and Amy.

Dean was a long-time farmer.  He also sold Crop Insurance for several years for Miller Farrell Insurance.  He owned and operated Sunflower Sales for many years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Elks.  He served on the Otoe County Fair Board for many years.

Dean is survived by his wife of 57 years Diane Reese of Nebr. City, NE; children:  David Reese of Nebr. City, NE and Amy (Ray) Pinney of McCool Junction, NE; eight grandchildren:  Rachel Spah, Lindsey Pinney, Colton Pinney, Jeremy Baker, Emma Spidell, Kailey Pinney, Samantha Pinney and Jaxson Reese; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law:  Charlene Reese of Nebr. City, NE and Marcia Hespen of Wickenburg, AZ; brother-in-law Allen Kent Hespen of Lincoln, NE; nieces and nephews:  Jeff (Jill) Reese of Nebr. City, NE, Laurie (Mike) Neeman of Hiawatha, KS, Robert Todd (Marilyn) Hespen of Omaha, NE and Angela Dowding of Lincoln, NE; other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert F. Reese and a sister Ellen Kay Reese.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Tom Schultes Celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (2/19) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
