David Charles Read

David C. Read, age 85 passed away on May 7, 2025.

David Charles Read was born on January 4, 1940 in Plattsmouth, NE; the son of Malvern and Neva (Laneaster) Read.  After high school David entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  After serving in the Air Force for 12 years, David re-enlisted in the Air Guard and served until his retirement on January 4, 2000.  He served for 21 years, 11 months and 12 days.

He was united in marriage to Sally Childers on July 18, 1958 and to this union five children were born:  Teresa, Carrie, Craig, David and Kimberly.  After raising their family and retiring, David and Sally traveled in their camper, enjoying the countryside.  They eventually settled in Davenport, FL.

He loved family gatherings, cruising and mushroom hunting, among many other things.  He had a kind soul and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.

David is survived and missed by his loving wife Sally (Childers) Read of 66 years; children:  Teresa and husband Greg, Carrie and husband Joseph, Craig and wife Robin, David and wife Lisa and Kimberly; 12 grandchildren:  Sheena, Hope, Lisa, Josh, Megan, John, Tyler, Blake, Savannah, Cheyenne, Christian and Dimitri; nine great-grandchildren:  Jaxton, Nicole, David, SJ, Kayden, Michelle, Carlos, Natalie and Finbarr; sister Ruth and husband Jim.

He was preceded in death  by his mother Neva, father Malvern and two sisters:  Rose Ella and Eileen.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.  Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force, the Talmage American Legion Post and the Patriot Guard Riders.
