David Joseph Horejsi

David J. Horejsi, age 82 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Morton Memory Care in Nebraska City, NE. 

David Joseph Horejsi was born on August 23, 1942 in Norfolk, NE; the eldest son of Lambert F. Horejsi and Rose C. Horejsi. Dave grew up in Schuyler, NE where he graduated from Schuyler High School in 1960. After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1964. He served in the Nebraska Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972.

Dave moved to Hamburg, IA in 1964 and began his career in pharmacy at Stoner Drug. His career spanned more than 50 years serving the communities in and around Hamburg including, Rock Port, MO, Beatrice, NE, Tecumseh, NE, Harlan, IA, and Villisca, IA. 

On February 12, 1966, Dave was united in marriage to Donna R. Edwards, daughter of Raymond M. Edwards and Pauline M. Edwards in Lincoln, NE. They welcomed four children: Kristine, Brad, Ryan, and Jeff.

Dave is survived by his wife Donna Horejsi of Hamburg, IA; children: Kristine Horejsi of Fort Collins, CO, Brad Horejsi of Nebraska City, NE, Ryan Horejsi of Loveland, CO, and Jeff Horejsi (Allison) of Omaha, NE; grandchild: Hudson; siblings: Lawrence Horejsi (Sharman) of Surprise, AZ, and Thomas Horejsi (Kathy) of Lincoln, NE; and other extended family.

Dave enjoyed spending time with family and friends, serving the community and church, playing cards, traveling, and being outdoors. 

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Rash Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Rash-Gude Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at the Hamburg Cemetery.  Following the graveside service a reception will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
