David W. Heng, Sr., age 93 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
David was born on March 11, 1928 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Carl John and Helen (Rehban) Heng, Sr. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1946. In March of 1951, David joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March of 1953.
On June 23, 1958, David was united in marriage to Patricia Joy Bell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City. They shared 63 years together. He was a life-long farmer, a job that he dearly loved. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a former member of the Eagles. His faith and family were his “life”.
He is survived by his wife, Pat J. Heng of Nebr. City; children: Bill W. Shanahan (Karen) of Overland, KS, Colleen Shanahan of Franklin, TN, David Heng, Jr. (Debbie) of Nebr. City, Jane Heng of Tucson, AZ, Patrick Heng of Nebr. City, Diane Heng of Glenwood, IA and Danny Heng (Robin) of Nebr. City; former daughter-in-law Tracy Heng of Nebr. City; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother Leo Heng (Sonja) of Omaha, NE; other family and friends.
David was preceded in death by mom and dad, Carl and Helen Heng, a brother Carl Heng, Jr. and an infant sister Noreen Heng.
A Private Family Mass will be held Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery (Paul) southwest of Nebraska City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
There will be Open Visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday (1/24) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. A Private Family Rosary will be held Monday.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Lourdes Central Catholic.
