David Guhde Obituary

David Fredrick Guhde was born December 2, 1945 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Fred and Muriel (Miller) Guhde. David attended grade school in Julian, NE and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1964.  During high school he was active in FFA and received the Degree of State Farmer as well as many State Fair Champions.  From there his love of agriculture continued to grow and set the foundation for his future.

On December 28, 1969 David was united in marriage to Deana Olsen in Treynor, IA.  They began their lives together with a rented farm on a mud road with a $125 4-wheel drive pick-up. David and Deana worked hard to build a business together that they loved and eventually built all new facilities on a farm they owned.  After many years of hard work, determination and patience, David and Deana celebrated all of their accomplishments at their 50th wedding anniversary on December 29, 2019 with family and friends.

On March 24, 1982, David and Deana thought their family was complete when their daughter Jennifer Anne was born. Jenny was the light of their lives.   They enjoyed time spent together and David quickly introduced Jenny to the show ring.  Together David and Jenny were naturals in the show ring and were blessed to hang many banners on the wall.  He loved the purebred industry and grew their hog business to be one of the top ten largest in the United States in the 80’s.  They sold and showed hogs coast to coast and internationally.  During that time he became the National President of the United Duroc Swine Registry and was honored by the National Pork Producers as a Pork All-American recipient.  Many great friendships developed there and have remained today.  He loved farming, good food and the purebred livestock industry, with his favorite activity being attending livestock shows.

His faith was an ever constant presence in David’s life and in the 80’s a small group felt that Nebraska City needed another Evangelical Church.  They had a vision that became a reality and Calvary Community Church was formed.  The Lord’s hand has truly blessed this vision.  Dave was on the first Board of Deacons and first to sign the membership and founding of its First Constitution.  This allowed for many gatherings with friends and fellow members of the church for years to come.

In the 90’s David was able to return to his first love of raising purebred cattle with his daughter Jenny.  In 2011, David’s family became complete when his grandson, Brock David Studer was born.  David enjoyed watching Brock grow as a boy and showman.  Brock not only has his Papa G’s name but also his love of livestock and showing.  He will forever have the best seat in the house to watch his only grandson and fifth generation farmer and stockman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Deana Guhde of Nebr. City, NE; daughter Jenny Studer of Creston, IA and grandson Brock Studer of Creston, IA; brother Glen Guhde and wife Rose of Brock, NE; other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Muriel Guhde and an infant son, Daniel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the David F. Guhde Memorial Scholarship for High School Seniors going to college, current college students seeking a Degree in Agriculture or young farmers getting started in Agriculture.
