David Detrick Obituary

David L. Detrick, 75, of Atlantic, IA (formerly Riverton and Exira) passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2025 at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, IA.

David Lee Detrick was born on March 28, 1950 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA, the son of Frederick R. Detrick and Mary L. (Bascom) Detrick. He attended school in Farragut, graduating from the Farragut High School with the class of 1968.

He made his home in Riverton, a place that was very special to him. He was active on the Riverton Fire Department, serving as Assistant Fire Chief for a time. David also served multiple terms as the Riverton Mayor. David worked for many years for the Farragut School District as well as Pella Window and Doors in Shenandoah.

He is survived by his children: Brad (Kathy) Detrick of Kansas City, MO, Brian (Rachel) Detrick of Oskaloosa, IA, and Brandon (Chelsa) Detrick of Platte City, MO; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Peggy Rudolph of Oklahoma; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Kathy Jo, and sister Patty Jennings.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Riverton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (7/7) at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Riverton Fire Department or Riverton Hometown Pride (PO Box 124 Riverton, IA 51650)
