Daniel Brian Zook

Daniel B. Zook, age 78 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Daniel Brian Zook was born on October 12, 1947 in Lexington, KY; the son of Merle and Miriam (Daniels) Zook.  He attended school and graduated from Westside High School in Omaha, NE with the Class of 1966.

After high school, Dan entered the United States Navy on March 14, 1967 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged on June 15, 1971.  After his time in the military, he began working at O.P.P.D. (Omaha Public Power District) as a Steamfitter.  He worked there for some 33 years before retiring in 2007.  He was a member of IBEW Steamfitter Local 763 Union, the Eagles and the V.F.W.

Dan was united in marriage to Jean Marie Fox on June 9, 2006 in Nebraska City, NE and they shared nearly 20 years of their lives together.

He is survived by his wife Jean Zook of Nebr. City, NE; children: Jon Smothers (Amanda) of Nebraska City, NE and Krisondra Schommer (Nick) of Nebraska City, NE; six grandchildren:  Kayden Borrego, Kenzi Borrego, Elijah Smothers, Stetson Schommer, Colt Schommer and Lelia Schommer; one brother John Zook (Linda) of Ohio; sisters-in-law Beth Fox of Lincoln, NE, Theresa Ulrichson (Jim) of Lincoln, NE and Cristy Fox of Nebr. City, NE; mother-in-law Marcia Fox of Nebr. City, NE; other family and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Virgil “Bud” Fox and Chris Fox and father-in-law Virgil Fox.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lorton Lounge on Saturday; April 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
