Curt Paul Wurtele peacefully passed away July 14th, 2026 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 66.
He was born December 10th, 1959 in Nebraska City, NE to Don “Red” and Jean (Kreifels) Wurtele. Curt attended country school through the 8th Grade at Sunnyside District 11. After 8th Grade he attended Lourdes Central Catholic and then Nebraska City High School where he graduated in 1978. Curt met Mary Yost and they were united in marriage August 12th, 1977 in Rockport, Missouri.
After high school, Curt started farming and trucking for various farmers. Curt and his brother Mike started C & M SPF Farms Inc. in 1991. Curt had a heart of gold. His grandchildren were his bright and shining light, being so proud of them all. He had even become a great-grandfather to Nash. Curt was one of the strongest men you could ever have met. His overall favorite and most used word was “ MARY.” He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. As well as loving farm life, he loved spending time with his friends.
Curt is survived by his wife Mary Wurtele; sons: Jamie Wurtele and Jason (Lacey) Wurtele; grandchildren: Gracie Wurtele, Roman Coats, Jayde Wurtele, Landon Wurtele and Jayli Wurtele; great-grandchild Nash Coats; sisters and brothers: Donna Maybee, Carrie Wendt, Kay Evans, Elaine (Jerry) Tasler, Renee (Bill) Hauder, Randy (Connie) Wurtele and Mike Wurtele; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom Schlichtemeier (spouse of Terri who passed away June 22, 2020) and Howard Blake (spouse of Christine who passed away October 9th, 2024), Todd (Jill) Yost, Joni (Craig) Davis, Lisa Yost (spouse of Jeff Yost who passed away March 6th, 2026), Greg Schildberg (spouse of Kristina who passed away September 2nd, 2025) and Randy (Tammy) Yost, as well as many other close friends and family.
Curt was reunited with loved ones in heaven: Terri Schlichtemeier (sister), Christine Blake (sister), Bradley Wurtele (infant brother), Jean and Don “Red” Wurtele (parents), Jeff Yost (brother-in-law), Kristina Schildberg (sister-in-law), along with many more.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE with Fr. Jonah Brox celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebraska City. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Curt's life will follow at The Camp Event Center (2005 4th Corso) in Nebraska City.
The casket will remain closed according to the family’s wishes.
