Colleen Marie (Fitzekam) Schreiter

Colleen M. Schreiter, age 85 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

Colleen Marie Schreiter was born on September 27, 1936 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Otto O. and Cecelia C. (Heng) Fitzekam.  She attended St. Benedict’s School through the 8th Grade and then finished her schooling at Nebraska City Public Schools, where she graduated with the Class of 1954.

On September 27, 1955, Colleen was united in marriage to William R. Schreiter at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City and to this union three children were born:  Kurt, Mary and David.  She was a loving and devoted mother and wife and worked beside her husband Bill on the farm for many years.  Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former LT&T phone company and Otoe County National Bank.

Colleen was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and was a song leader at church for numerous years.  She also participated in adoration for several years.   She belonged to the Neighborhood Club and helped with BINGO and other activities at the former Duff’s Friendship Villa and was an Election Board Worker for Otoe County for many years.

She is survived by her children:  Kurt Schreiter and wife Jeanene of Dunbar, NE, Mary McCoy and husband Gerold of Lincoln, NE and David Schreiter and wife Natalie of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers:  Gordon (Margaret) Fitzekam of Plantation, FL, and David Fitzekam (Anita) of Lincoln, NE; sisters and brother-in-law:  Marilyn Fitzekam of Lincoln, NE; Marlene and Wilber Fey of Nebr. City, NE; other family and friends.

Colleen was preceded in death by her husband Bill on July 19, 2011, her parents and a brother Douglas Fitzekam.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Ryan Kaup celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City on Monday, August 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  and a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Lourdes Central Catholic or St. Benedict’s Catholic Church Parish Hall.
