Charlie E. Fox

Charlie E. Fox, 89, of Hamburg, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Homestead Care Center in Shenandoah, IA.

Charlie Edward Fox was born on April 15, 1936, in Meadow Bridge, WV, the son of James Percy and Cora Virginia (Adkins) Fox. He attended school at the Backus Mountain Elementary School and later Meadow Bridge High School. Prior to graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in the military police until his honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Shelton on May 21, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, IA.  Charlie worked most of his life in automotive repair; starting at Shorty Reed’s garage, and later  Dooley Motors, before starting his own business with Jim Armstrong, C&J Auto. He later operated Charlie’s Standard Service in Hamburg until his retirement. He worked part time as a Fremont County Deputy and for the Hamburg City Police. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father-in-law, Frank Shelton, and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon Fox of Hamburg; children: Chuck (Sondra) Fox of Dodge City, KS, Theresa Fox of Hamburg, IA, and Bill (Kristin) Fox of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Shawna (Kirk) Lewis, Amber Fox, Charles II Fox, Sophie Fox, and Lily Fox, numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marlene Waller of Charlotte, NC; half-brother Jimmy Lewis of Michigan; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two month old infant son James Allen; and siblings: Sally Gonzalez and Pete Fox.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will follow the memorial service at the funeral home.
