Charles Edward Sears and Sallye Ruth Sears

Our beloved parents, Charles Edward Sears and Sallye Ruth Sears, formerly of Sidney, Iowa, passed away after 59 years of marriage. Charles, 80, passed away on September 17, 2021, and Sallye, 79, followed her adoring husband in death two years later on September 28, 2023. They dedicated their days to deep love and embraced life with joy and fulfillment.

Charles was born on June 9, 1941, to Willard and Bonnie (Houchins) Sears. Charles enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and traveling. Sallye was born on January 24, 1944, to Verne and Ruth (Mead) Curtis. Sallye enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo, and traveling. As a couple, Charles and Sallye shared a profound love and a deep care for one another. Together, they dedicated themselves to building a wonderful life for their family, encompassing their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Charles and Sallye paths first crossed during their time at school in Sidney, Iowa, becoming high school sweethearts. The two quickly fell in love and dedicated their lives to each other, marrying December 31, 1961.

Charles worked for Taylor Farms, Fremont County Roads Department, and Sidney Community School until his retirement. While Sallye worked several jobs throughout her life, her favorite was always being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

They are survived by their daughter, Terri (Gerry) Sprentall of Payson, Arizona; son, Tom (Lisa) Sears of Branson West, Missouri; grandchildren: Sarah Hart of Chandler, Arizona, Joey (Natalie) Sprentall of Gilbert, Arizona, Ashley Sears of Riverton, Iowa, Rebecca (William) Murphy of Kissee Mills, Missouri, and Sean Sears of Branson West, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Bailey Hart, Logan Hart, Charlotte Sprentall, and Jordan Sprentall and predeceased by Charles’s parents Willard and Bonnie (Houchins) Sears and Charles’s sister Ginger Viner, brother-in-law Gene Viner, niece Cindy (Viner) Perdue and Sallye’s parents Verne and Ruth (Mead) Curtis and Sallye’s brother Gary Curtis.

A family graveside service will take place on 9/28/2024 at the Sidney Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with a public wake to follow at Matt’s Attic in Shenandoah (2062 US-59) at 12:00 p.m.
