Charles C. Varellas

Charles C. Varellas, age 80 of Riverton, IA passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at his home. 

Charles was born on August 28, 1941 in Hammond, IN; the son of John and Helen (Fizer) Varellas.  After graduating from St. John's Military Academy (Delafield, WI), Chuck attended the University of Indiana where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Charles spent most of his career working for Amoco Oil Company in the Credit Card Division.  For many years he was a Purchasing Agent.  At the time of retirement he was the Facilities Manager at the West Des Moines facility.  Shortly after retiring, he moved to Riverton, IA where he built a home and established a vineyard on a small acreage just north of Riverton.  He enjoyed making wine for himself and others.  Charles also enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors.  He also enjoyed keeping up with current events, news and politics.  

He is survived by his children:  Vickie Renee Thomas (Larry) of Centralia, MO and Bryan John Varellas (Jennifer) of Riverton, IA; grandchildren:  Lucas Thomas, Clayton Thomas, Jake Varellas, Trey Varellas and Seth Varellas; great-grandchildren:  Hailee Knight, Jerzee Knight, Jaxson Varellas and Mason Varellas; other family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gloria Issacs.

A Private Family Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Riverton Cemetery in Riverton, IA.

Memorials may be given to the Riverton Fire and Rescue.
