CHARLES LEROY SUHR
Always the prankster, Charles LeRoy Suhr passed away peacefully at his home in Nebraska City on April 1, 2025.
Charles was born in Geneva, Nebraska, on April 13, 1963 to Louis and Dorothy Suhr, the youngest of four children. Charles was many years younger than his siblings so therefore was very spoiled. Charles graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1981. He went to Kearney State College (at the time) but decided to enlist in the Navy before graduating. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Phoenix in 2012.
Charles served in the Navy from 1983 to 2003. He was very proud to serve and retired as a Navy Chief. He received many distinctions while in the military and officially retired in 2003 after close to 20 years of service.
Charles was very adept with computers and very proficient in building things. Charles and Cathy’s house had an amazing Christmas lights display for many years. Most recently, Charles was a Senior Systems Analyst at the Nebraska Public Power District in Brownville, NE for over 13 years.
Charles had one son, Benjamin Charles, who lived with them. Charles married the love of his life, Cathy, on July 16, 2005, in Chula Vista, California. Cathy brought into Charles’ life her children: Blair (Candus) Dell and Catie Dell.
Charles is survived by his wife, Cathy of Nebraska City; older sisters: Virginia (Don) Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK; and Betty (Dick) Everts of Omaha, NE; children: Benjamin of Nebraska City and Blair Dell; grandchildren: Colton, Valerie, Cuyler, Killika and Jenna; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dorothy Suhr; brother, Gary Suhr, and bonus daughter, Catie Dell.
His kindness and generosity will be missed by many close family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Pin High Clubhouse (Table Creek Golf Course). Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion Post.
