Charles L. Fassbender, age 94 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Emerald Nursing Home in Omaha, NE.
Charles Leo Fassbender was born on April 21, 1931 in Omaha, NE; the only child of Leo J. and Bertha Clara (Koeppel) Fassbender. He grew up in Nebraska City where he attended St. Mary's School and St. Bernard’s Academy. He served in the United States Navy for a short time after high school.
In recent years, Charles was a long time resident of Albert and Linda Zook and then later Don and Linda Holmes. He enjoyed walking around town and talking to people. He had a sense of humor and liked to wear crazy hats. He collected old catalogs, books and trains. Charlie liked his change and counted his coins to the penny. Charles liked green olives and could eat a whole jar at once. He liked old toys and loved to tell stories about his dog from when he was younger.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Eagles Club. He did visit other churches like Faith Baptist Church, where he had gone to depression classes. He mainly went to where there was good food with his late friends Jim Easter and Leroy Baier. Charles, Albert, Leroy, Jim, Don and Linda were buddies and enjoyed dinners at various churches. The friends also attended Midnight Mass yearly at St. Benedict's Catholic Church and they attended St. Mary's Masses and services at other churches. Fr. McCabe saw that Charlie received communion weekly. They also enjoyed the weekly bible studies at Linda's home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Emerald Nursing Home, 5505 Grover St, Omaha, NE 68106. Followed by food and fellowship.
