Carter Herold, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2024.
Carter was born September 26, 1943, in Shenandoah, IA, as one of eight children to Wayne and Winifred (Faye) Herold. Carter attended Nebraska City schools. When in 11th grade, he was in a hunting accident where he lost his right eye. He later completed his education and received his GED.
After this, Carter worked many jobs in Nebraska City, Lincoln and Omaha, including Morton House Kitchens, General Cable and Nebraska Tractor, where he retired in 2015. Carter was married to Dorothy Goff in 1964 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Together, they had four beautiful children, Douglas (Mary) Herold, Kathryn (Mark) Herold, Allison (Darren) Santana and Joseph (Kristen) Herold.
Carter will always be remembered as a hard working man, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His passions included auctions, his truck, fishing, camping, and his two dogs, Tulip and Iris.
Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Faye, his sisters Gloria (Terry) Helms, Darla (Louis) Stukenholtz, Romelle (Ronald) Copenhaver, Sunda Doiel and Gayle Watton, his brother, Courtney Herold, and one grandchild, Austin Herold.
Carter is survived by his wife, Dorothy, brother, Mike Herold, brother in law, Ron Copenhaver, 4 children, 13 grandchildren, Sean (Richelle) Santana, Andrew (Taylor) Santana, Briana (Caleb) Parker, Hope Herold, Quinn Sowokinos, Megan (Scott Jr., fianceé) Santana, Taylor (Matthew) McLaughlin, Hezekiah (Hailey) Santana, Faith (Brandon) Rotherham, Anthony (Courtney) Santana, Lillian Santana, Zacchaeus Santana, and Naomi Santana, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Gude Mortuary on Sunday, November 10 from 5-7 p.m.. A Rosary will be held following visitation, at Gude Mortuary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Benedict’s Church in Nebraska City on Monday, November 11 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery.
Luncheon to follow burial at St. Mary’s Church in Nebraska City, in the basement.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE.
