Carl "Al" Anderson

Carl A. “Al” Anderson, age 83 of Sidney, IA (formerly Randolph, IA) passed away on August 11, 2020 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.

Carl Alfred “Al” Anderson was born on December 28, 1936 in Page County, IA; the son of Rueben and Myrtle (Engster) Anderson.  He grew up in rural Essex, IA and graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1955. He later enlisted in the Army and served in the Iowa National Guard from 1957-1965.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Jean “Sandy” Greever on February 15, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in Strahan, IA and to this union two children were born:  Terry and Carla.

Al was a lifelong farmer and operated the fertilizer plant in Randolph for many years.  In his later years he delivered campers. Al and Sandy enjoyed many winters in Arizona, as well as camping and boating. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his children:  Terry Anderson of Hamburg, IA and Carla Nahkunst and husband Jim of Hamburg, IA; five grandchildren:  Lindsey Carter and husband David of Randolph, IA, Ashley Ormsby and husband Jon of Moscow, IA, Chelsey Lorimor and husband Marcus of Bartlett, IA, Colin Nahkunst of Hamburg, IA and Bradley Nahkunst and fiance Bailey Wilson of Hamburg, IA; four great-grandchildren:  Jayden, Anderson, Gracelynn and Jaxon; sister Dorothy Walter and husband Gerald of Northboro, IA; other family and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his wife Sandy on August 27, 2019, his parents, brother and sister-in-law Harold and Shirley Anderson and nephew John Anderson.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, IA.  Burial will follow the service.  The family requests that those attending please wear masks due to Covid-19.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA.
