Calvin H. Behrends, age 73 of Excelsior Springs, MO (formerly Nebraska City, NE) passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at his home.
Calvin Henry Behrends was born on January 22, 1948 in Humboldt, NE; the son of Richard and Georgina (Sinnett) Behrends. After high school, Calvin entered the United States Army on June 26, 1968. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on June 25, 1970.
Calvin worked as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service for some 30 years, of which 25 years were in Auburn, NE. He also had worked at the Tri-Pac Cabinet Factory and was a Bartender at Buck’s in Auburn as well as at the Toddy Shop in Nebr. City.
He was a member the American Legion and enjoyed playing cards and having coffee at Burger King with his friends. Calvin was an avid golfer and loved to bowl.
He was united in marriage to Sue DeWitt on August 29, 1992 in Nebraska City and they shared 29 years of their lives together.
Calvin is survived by his wife Sue Behrends of Excelsior Springs, MO; daughter Billie Nicolay and husband Skye of Nebr. City; five grandchildren: Jaycie Hoyle, Addison Hoyle, Layke Nicolay, Charlee Nicolay and Sawyer Nicolay; three great-grandchildren: Louden, Layla and Nevaeh; sisters-in-law Renee Fiffe of Loveland, CO and Mary Behrends of Auburn, NE; nephew Andrew Behrends and wife Amy of Auburn, NE; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson Lennon Hoyle; his parents, and a brother Richard “Dick” Behrends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Military Honors will be conducted at the mortuary immediately following the funeral services, conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
A Celebration of Life will follow the services at Table Creek Golf Course Club House.
Pallbearers will be Skye Nicolay, Jeanette Harker, Leslie Demar, Marcy Aldana, Jen Peters, Lindsay Bazalaki, James Parsons, Josh Smith, Trey Gibson, Jared Hendershot, Kyle Brinkerhoff and Fernando Balquier.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday (12/26) at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
