Buck Hammers, age 88 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday; June 8, 2023 at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
LeRoy Edwin “Buck” Hammers was born on April 12, 1935 in Glenwood, IA; the son of Eddie E. and Eva (Severn) Hammers.
He was united in marriage to Iona June Albrecht on May 5, 1954 at Pacific Junction, IA, and to this union three children were born: Rosalee, Eldon and Dale. Buck worked for several years at the former Dawson Oil Company in Nebraska City and later began a career at the Otoe County Roads Dept. where he worked for some 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Bethel Church in Nebr. City and a long-time member of the Eagles Club.
He is survived by his son Dale Hammers (Pamela) of Highlands Ranch, CO, daughter-in-law Terry Hammers of Auburn, NE, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother Richard Hammers (Emajo) of Glenwood, IA, sister Viola “Vi” Walton (Bud) of George West, TX; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
Buck was preceded by his wife Iona on June 29, 2012, daughter Rosalee Weible, son Eldon Hammers, granddaughter Jennifer Weible, sister Elaine “Jane” McCampbell, son-in-law Burt Weible and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday (6/15) at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Church in Nebraska City with Pastor Keith Valenzuela officiating. Burial will follow in Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (6/14) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethel Church in Nebraska City.
