Betty Winkler Obituary
Betty A. Winkler, age 83 of Nebraska City passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Nebraska City Care & Rehabilitation.
Betty was born on April 15, 1934 in Lynch, NE; the daughter of Harry Ralph and Eva Marie (Hiatt) Simonds. Her family later moved to the Nehawka area where she graduated from Nehawka High School with the class of 1951.
On November 3, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to William J. Winkler, Sr. in Lincoln, NE. In addition, to raising her family, she worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills for 26 ½ years and did babysitting in her home. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she also enjoyed doing embroidery. Betty made sure the that all her children and grandchildren had a piece of embroidery she had made.
She is survived by her children: William J. Winkler, Jr. and wife Pamela of Hermitage, PA; Robert Winkler and wife Meredith of O’Fallon, IL; Gayle French and husband Gene of Gravois Mill, MO; Randy Winkler of Panama, NE and Rein Winkler of Nebr. City, NE; seven grandchildren: Dawn, Erin, Matthew, Lenora, Rayla, Scott and Kasey; five great-grandchildren: Leigh, Emma, Alexander, Corbin and Penelope; siblings: Roy Simonds and wife Marlena of Tennessee; Rex Simonds and wife Becky of Whittier, CA; Carole Perry of Rockville, IN; Janis Crowner of Nebr. City and Jerry Simonds of Rockville, IN; other family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Winkler on Novmeber 21, 2008; son Steven Wayne Winkler in 1955; siblings: Roland, Iva, Fern, Lois, Arlie, Harlan, Iris, Harry, Jr. and infant brother Russel; brothers-in-law: Dick, George, Keith and Raymond Winkler; sisters-in-law: Bertha Fenske and Dorothy Hughson.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (3/29) evening at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
