Belvia Pauline (Shelton) Petry

Belvia P. Petry, lovingly referred to as "Bub" or "Bubbles" by her family and friends, age 85 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Belvia Pauline Petry was born on September 9, 1936 in Atchison County Missouri; the daughter of Frank C. and Essie Lillian (Wheeler) Shelton.  She graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1954.

In November of 1968, Belvia was united in marriage to William Charles Petry in Omaha, NE.  They shared 32 years together before his passing on January 6, 2001. 

Belvia worked as a cook for many years at different places, including Essen House and Tiger Toms where she also tended the bar. She also previously worked for Interstate Nursery in Hamburg.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  Her favorite hobbies included fishing, where she enjoyed an adult beverage from time to time, crocheting and baking for others.  Belvia also delighted in babysitting her twin great nieces, Lily and Sophie. She was also a huge Husker fan and never missed a game.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters:  Sharon Fox (Charlie) of Hamburg, IA, Wilma Howard of Atascadero, CA and Marlene Waller of Charlotte, NC; nieces and nephews:  Debbie, Dona, Kevin, Mark, Monica, Elizabeth, Michael, Sandra, Chuck, Theresa, Bill, Jody, Terry, Shelley, Stefanie, Shane, Veronica, Paige, Derrick, Michael and Ralph; numerous great nieces and nephews; special friends Mary Widman and Rose Biggs; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Carl Jack and Francis “Pete”, half-brother Ralph; sisters Betty Lou and Patty Jean, and half-sister Carmen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Pastor Courtney Dake officiating.  The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

A Graveside Service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, NE on Monday, August 15th.
