Barbara Goff Obituary

Barbara Jean (Hohman) Goff,79, of Arlington TX, passed away peacefully, held by family, on June 7, 2024. She was born on November 12, 1944, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, to Robert and Ruth (Gude) Hohman. Barbara was the first of seven children. She married Marvin LeVern Goff, also of Nebraska City, in 1965.

Barbara was a nurse, specializing in Surgery, Oncology, and Administration as a Director of Nursing at several hospitals. As an Oncology nurse, she was one of the first nurses trained and tasked with hand-mixing and administering chemotherapy drugs. During the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980's, she was one of the first nurses to volunteer to treat patients of this new, unknown disease. When Barbara was diagnosed with cancer, she was diagnosed, treated, and experienced remission at the Center where she had treated so many others.

Barbara loved to travel and explored many parts of this country and world, extensively with her husband, and often with her best friend and sister, Carol, by her side. She loved all types of music and was a supporting member of the opera. Barbara loved to play cards and was always up for a board game with the grandchildren. Her dogs were treated to daily walks and she was well known by all of her neighbors.

Barbara was a devout Catholic, travelling to the Holy Land and Europe to explore sacred sites and participating in study groups and lectures at her Church, Most Blessed Sacrament of Arlington. She was a devoted supporter of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Arlington TX.

She is survived by her loving son Michael (Molly Jean), his children McKenna and Grayson Goff of North Beach, MD, and Tyler and Britton Goff of Fort Worth, TX, children of Angela Glass and the late Alex Goff; brothers, Robert (Ellen) Hohman of Jacksonville, FL, James (Linda) Hohman of Hays, KS, Theodore (Joanne) Hohman of Carthage, MO, and Thomas Hohman of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin, her son Alex Robert Goff, her parents, sisters, Mary Ellen Hohman and Carol Lechner, and Krista, wife of her brother Thomas.

A Remembrance will be held on June 24, 2024 from 10:00 am until Noon at Shannon Funeral Home, located at 6001 Rufe Snow Dr, Fort Wort TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, located at 218 N 6th St in Nebraska City.
