Sarah Rosalie Welchans, daughter of George and Clara Bunn, was born on July 25, 1925 in Westboro, Missouri. She entered into eternal rest on March 29, 2019.

She lived in the Northboro area and graduated from Northboro High School in 1943.  Sarah was an avid player of basketball and softball during her high school years. After graduation, she moved to Omaha where she graduated from Commercial Extension Business College.  Sarah lived with the Russell family of Russell Sporting Goods. Mr. Russell Russell started a female traveling basketball team which Sarah was a member.   In 1946, Sarah met her future husband, Wilber Welchans. During their dating years, they experienced many rides in Wilber’s airplane.

On August 29,1948 Sarah was united in marriage to Wilber Welchans at the United Methodist Church in Farragut, Iowa. They moved to their current farm south of Riverton where they lived for 70 years.

Sarah and Wilber enjoyed going on cruises and spending the winters camping in Texas and Arizona. They also enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. One of their biggest highlights was square dancing on the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado.   Sarah was a lifelong, active member of the Riverton and Locust Grove Methodist Churches. She served several years on the District Conference in United Methodist Women. Sarah was a 4-H leader and helped with 4-H camps and worked at the 4-H rodeo stand for many years. She was a fifty year Eastern Star member and served on the Madison Township Election Board for fifty years.

Sarah will be remembered for her cooking, baking, oil paintings, and making quilts. Her specialities were homemade chicken and noodles, pies, and cookies and candies at Christmas time.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Welchans, parents, George and Clara Bunn, sister, Opal Smith, and brother, Raymond Bunn.

Tricia, Connie, and families:
I was sorry to read about Sarah's passing today. I know through Janet that she has faced a long battle the past few years. Sorry you both had to lose both of your parents so close together. Both of them lived good, long lives and touched many other lives.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I feel privileged to have gotten to meet The Welchans family in Summer of 2016. Quickly Sarah became my favorite hello as she passed my office at Windsor. She was a such a wonderful person with a absolute heart of gold! There will be no one else like her!
