Ronald Leighton “Bud” Witty, age 78 of Nebraska City passed away on March 28, 2018 at his home.

Ron was born on June 3, 1939 in Santa Monica, CA; the son of Cecil Clarence and Janice Hobson (Edwards) Witty.  The family later moved back to Nebraska City where he attended school.  Ron graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1957.

On November 8, 1957, he entered the United States Army.  He proudly served his country for two years and was honorably discharged.

After serving in the military, Ron was an auto mechanic for many years and later a truck driver.  He was one of the first drivers for Werner Enterprises and could proudly boast he was an Accident Free Member of the 2 Million Mile Club.  He was a life-time member of the Eagles.  He enjoyed Disney movies, nature, driving his convertible, country music and family genealogy - however his greatest love was his family.

Ron found love many times in his life and was blessed with two children who survive him:  Rhonda Ullsperger and husband David of Nebr. City, NE and John “Willie” Witty and wife Rachel of El Paso, TX; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren ; siblings:  Cecilia Bartholomew of Columbus, NE; Sarah Stever and significant other John Wilkens of Ft. Collins, CO; Peggy Wallman and husband Dennis of Beatrice, NE and Toni Kingery of Nebr. City, NE; numerous nieces and nephews; other family and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Diane Witty; his parents; great-grandson Jonathan Hartley-Ullsperger; a sister Mary Lee Witty and brothers-in-law:  M. H. Bartholomew and Donald Kingery.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.   Burial will follow at Camp Creek Cemetery south of Nebr. City.  Military honors will be conducted the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Detail.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (4/2) evening at the mortuary.

Ron and I were high school classmates. We became close friends after he moved to his Riverview apartment. His friendly demeanor, sense of humor and pleasant personality earned him respect and friendship among many of his neighbors.
