Fredrick Michael Gress, age 71, of Nebraska City, NE passed away on March 2, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City.

Fred was born on July 4, 1946 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Bernard Raymond and Lois May (Teten) Gress.  He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1964.

After graduating from high school, Fred began his life-long career of farming, a job he was devoted to and truly loved.  In 1965, Fred joined the Nebraska National Guard and served through 1970.

On January 20, 1968, Fred was united in marriage to Janis Joy Reese at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary.  He was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and the A.O.P.A. (Aircraft Owners Pilot Association).

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Janis Gress of Nebraska City; children:  Michael Gress and wife Janelle of Nebr. City; Jennifer Briley of Nebr. City; Kyle Gress and significant other Amanda May of Unadilla, NE; 12 grandchildren:  Matthew Gress, Thomas Gress, Alex Gress, Brittney  Fieselman and husband Chris, Jacob Gress, Justin Gress, Joshua Briley, Jillian Briley, Logan Gress, Brennan Gress, Grayson May and Sophia May; two great-grandchildren:  Bentlee and Liam Fieselman; sister Linda Allen and husband Paul of Nebr. City; sister-in-law Kathy Clymens of Woodland Park, CO; brother-in-law Ken Reese and wife Marilyn of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; a son Darin on May 15, 2015 and an infant sister Sheila Gress.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Mark Cyza celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (3/6) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorials may be given to St. Benedict’s Catholic Church or be directed to the family to benefit the Nebraska Game and Parks Youth Hunt.

Jo and I are so sorry for your loss and the heartache and sorrow that you are all experiencing. Fred was a good friend and I/we will miss him greatly.

Our winter travels have taken us to south Texas so we will be unable to attend the service, but please know that our love and thoughts are with you and your family during this time.
