Harriett taught school in Riverton and Farragut, Iowa, in El Paso, Texas, and again in Farragut. On July 23, 1961, Harriett was united in marriage to Max William Griffey in Riverton, and to this union two daughters were born: Ronda and Rebecca “Becky”.

She was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Northboro, Iowa, the Rebekah Lodge in Riverton and a member of the St. Cecilia Choir for many years.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Max Griffey.
