Warren Wheeldon Obituary
Warren J. Wheeldon, age 93 of Gretna, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Gretna Community Living Center.
Warren James Wheeldon was born on July 7, 1925 in Burchard, NE; the son of James and Elsie (Bromeier) Wheeldon. His family later moved to Nebraska City where he graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1943.
He married Betty “Penny” Stansbury on July 7, 1978 in Elk Point, SD. They enjoyed 38 years together before Betty’s passing on August 12, 2016.
Warren worked as a Boiler Maker for Local Union 83 for over 45 years. He also did farm work and carpentry. He had many hobbies, including making yard ornaments and nativity sets, needlepoint and traveling with Penny.
He is survived by his children: Warren J. Wheeldon, Jr. and wife Louise of Gretna, NE, Mary Jane Sawyer and husband David of Berthoud, CO, Anne Keppler and husband Bill of Edmonds, WA, Susy Bace and husband Dan of Omaha, NE, Tom Wheeldon and wife Rogene of Lincoln, NE and Ted Wheeldon and wife Tina of Axtell, TX; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; step-children: William Holliway and wife Kathy of Tampa, FL, Randall Holliway and wife Brenda of Conyers, GA, Michael Holliway and wife Marcia of Nebr. City, NE and Sally Rumery of Hurst, TX; 10 step-grandchildren and 12 great step-grandchildren; other family and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by his wives: Helen and Betty; his parents and sister Mildred Anker.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Church of Christ Building Fund.
