Kenneth Duane Smalley

Kenneth D. Smalley, age 95 of Nebr. City (formerly Hamburg, IA) passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Morton Place in Nebr. City.

Kenneth Duane Smalley was born on July 13, 1924 in Ames, IA; the son of Oscar Duane and Leta Faye (Sonner) Smalley. He attended school and graduated from Hamburg High School with the class of 1942.  

After high school he began his lifelong career of farming; a job he truly loved.  On December 12, 1964, he married Virginia Ann Pflug in Papillion, NE and to this union a son Duane was born.

Kenneth continued to farm until his retirement in 1986.  He was very active in the Hamburg Community, including being a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Nishnabotany Masonic Lodge #153.  He also served on the Grape Community Hospital Board of Trustees.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Virginia Smalley of Nebr. City, NE; son Duane F. Smalley of Lenexa, KS; other family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg.  Burial will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday (8/23) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Methodist Church, Hamburg Fire/Rescue, or Grape Community Hospital.
