Kenneth L. Ludington, age 71 of Hamburg, IA passed away on December 23, 2018 at his home.
Kenneth was born on September 4, 1947 in Clarinda, IA; the son of Vernon and Mary Lois (Laughlin) Ludington. He graduated from South Page High School in 1966. He went on to obtain his Associate Degree from Iowa Western and his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Buena Vista College.
He entered the United States Army on Jan. 7, 1969 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 13, 1970.
On August 3, 1968 he was united in marriage to Janet Robertson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clarinda, IA. To this union 2 children were born: Kimberly and Kristophor.
He began as a substitute postman and worked his way up to Supervisor and then he was appointed the Postmaster in Hamburg, IA. He retired at the age of 56, after 36 years of service. After retiring, Ken took up gardening. He sold his goods at local Farmer’s Markets and then branched out to the Lincoln, NE area. He did this up until last year and built many friendships during this time. He also raised and showed dairy goats.
He was the former Commander of the Hamburg VFW.
Ken is survived by his wife Janet Ludington of Hamburg, IA; children: Kimberly Barker and fiance Rich Benak and Kristophor Ludington of Knoxville, IA; four grandchildren: Blake Schwartz and wife Amber, Nickole Schwartz, Paige Ludington and Kaytlynn Huffine; great-grandson Carson Caudle; mother Mary Ludington of Clarinda; sister Kathleen Holmes of Clarinda, IA and brother-in-law Wesley Pulliam of Clarinda; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Ludington and his sister Karen Pulliam.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening (12/27) at the Rash-Gude Funeral in Hamburg, IA. A Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m.
