Kenneth Kreifels Obituary

Kenneth M. Kreifels, age 90 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Kenneth Martin Kreifels was born to Martin and Helen Marie (Heng) Kreifels on August 15, 1928 in rural Nebraska City near Paul, NE.  He grew up and attended school in the Nebraska City area, graduating from Nebraska City High School in 1947.  He then went on to attend Peru State College where he earned his degree in Industrial Engineering.  

On Sept. 5, 1950 Kenny entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged on Sept. 4, 1954.

On September 29, 1952, Kenny was united in marriage to Pauline C. Sasse at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City and to this union five children were born:  Kathy, Tim, Dick, Mary and Pat.

Kenny worked at American Meter in Nebraska City as an Industrial Engineer for 37 years.  He retired in 1991.  He was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and he was very active in his community.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3152 where he served as State District Deputy for seven years and Treasurer for 30 years.  He was a member of American Legion Post 8, the Eagles, the Legion of Mary, Apostolate of Suffering, Auxiliary of Pink Sisters, Association of Miraculous Medal and Toastmasters.  He served on the United Way Board, Red Cross Board, Oak Arbor Recovery Center Board and the Lourdes Central Catholic School Board.  He was an Honorary Lourdes Alumni.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 66 years, Pauline Kreifels of Nebr. City; children:  Kathy Gawart and husband John of Nebr. City, Tim Kreifels and wife Jackie of Atlantic, IA, Dick Kreifels and wife Jane of Lincoln, NE, Mary Vodra and husband John of Stevens Point, WI and Pat Mettler and husband Rich of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings:  Mildred Schrieter of Nebr. City, Vernon “Duke” Kreifels of Nebr. City and Jim Kreifels and wife Pat of Lincoln, NE; four sisters-in-law:  Darlene Kreifels of Lincoln, NE, Pat Kreifels of Bennett, NE, Rosita Kreifels of Falls City, NE and Madeline Sasse of Rock Springs, WY; two brothers-in-law:  Alvin Czeschin of Lincoln, NE and Ed Sasse and wife Cleora of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers:  Donald, Harold, Mark, Marvin and Larry Kreifels; sister Shirley Czeschin and sister-in-law Mary Jane Clark.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Mark Cyza officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery with military honors by the US Air Force Funeral Honors Detail.

The family will greet friends at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday (9/30).  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, St. Benedict’s Cemetery or Lourdes Central Catholic in Nebr. City.
